Planning the Future for Parks and Recreation - Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee

A mailed questionnaire to randomly selected households was part of the input process for the Recreation Master Plan that was developed by the County and City of Grande Prairie in 2016. The Master Plan provides an overall framework to guide the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of recreation and parks programs, services, and facilities in the area and was adopted by The County and City of Grande Prairie, Towns of Sexsmith, Wembley and Beaverlodge, Village of Hythe and MD of Greenview in 2017. It was recommended that the survey was conducted again in 4-5 years time.

Fast forward to 2020! >>  A postcard with a random entry number was mailed early in February 2020 to approximately 10,000 randomly selected homes in the City and County of Grande Prairie (including its many hamlets), as well as Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, Wembley, Hythe and some areas of the MD of Greenview. Recreational opportunities play a big part in our quality of life. Feedback from residents is essential in helping the municipal partners identify opportunities for growth and improvement in the recreation and parks programs, services and facilities available in the area.

A second phase of input was collected via an "open" online survey which ran from March 6 - March 31, 2020. All members of the public and sporting communities were encouraged to complete the questionnaire. Participating municipalities and associated organisations promoted the survey via social media and other platforms. There was an optional draw for a $250 Visa card for anyone who participated - the winner Ryan (see picture above) was announced April 17, 2020.
